1. What data we collect

1.1 Data you provide

• Account information (optional) — Hey Trainer works without an account. If you choose to sign in with Google, Apple, or email (via Firebase Authentication), we receive your email address and basic profile information from the sign-in provider. This is used to identify your account and enable cloud backup and sync across your devices.
• Body weight (optional) — if you enter your weight in Settings, it is stored locally on your device and used to calculate volume for body-weight exercises. It is never transmitted to our servers.
• Voice enrollment samples (optional) — if you use the Voice Enrollment feature, we record and process short audio clips of you saying “Hey Trainer.” The resulting voice profile is stored only on your device and is never uploaded.

1.2 Data generated automatically

When Hey Trainer detects the wake word “Hey Trainer” (or you initiate a recording another way), a short audio clip of your voice command is sent to Google's Gemini API (via Google Cloud) for transcription and intent parsing. The audio is used to extract what exercise you named, how many reps, and what weight — then structured workout data is saved locally. Hey Trainer does not store the audio clip after it has been processed.

Google's handling of data submitted to the Gemini API is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and the Google Cloud Privacy Notice. Audio submitted to the Gemini API through Google Cloud is not used to train Google's models.

When you speak to Hey Trainer, your words are converted to text and processed by our AI provider (Google Cloud) to understand your workout. Transcripts of these requests and the AI’s responses are kept in our service logs for up to 14 days — we use them only to operate, troubleshoot, and improve the service — and are deleted automatically after that. Your workout history itself is stored as described elsewhere in this policy.

Workout data

Everything you log — exercise names, sets, reps, weight, timestamps — is stored in a local database on your device. If you sign in and use cloud backup (included with Hey Trainer Pro), your workout data is also synced to our cloud database (Google Firestore) so it can be restored and accessed across your devices. If you do not sign in, your workout data stays on your device.

Subscription state

If you subscribe to Hey Trainer Pro, the purchase is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store) and subscription state is managed by RevenueCat, linked to your Hey Trainer user identifier. Payment details are handled by Apple or Google and never reach us. RevenueCat's privacy practices are described in their Privacy Policy.

1.3 Website analytics (heytrainer.ai)

This applies to the heytrainer.ai website only, not to the app. The website uses Google Analytics to measure traffic — how many people visit, which pages they read, and which site referred them. To do this it stores a randomly generated identifier in your browser (a cookie) and records your approximate location (derived from your IP address, at city level), device type, and browser.

We use this only to understand how the site is performing in aggregate. We do not use it to identify you personally, we do not sell it, and it is not connected to your workout data or your Hey Trainer account — the website has no sign-in. You can opt out with Google's browser opt-out add-on, by blocking cookies for this site, or by using your browser's private mode. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

2. What data we do NOT collect

• Name or email address — unless you choose to sign in for cloud backup and sync (Section 1.1). An account is optional.
• Location data. (The app requests no location permission and collects no location. Separately, the heytrainer.ai website derives an approximate city from your IP address through Google Analytics — see Section 1.3.)
• Contacts or calendar access.
• Health or fitness data from HealthKit or Health Connect — we do not access it.
• Persistent audio recordings — audio is processed and discarded.

3. How we use your data

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or third-party marketers.

• Workout data — stored on your device indefinitely until you delete it. Use Bag → Clear all workout data to remove all sessions. If you use cloud backup, the synced copy is retained in Firestore until you delete the data or your account.
• Voice profile — stored on your device until you delete the app or tap Start Over in the Voice Enrollment screen.
• Body weight — stored on your device until you change or delete the app.
• Subscription state — RevenueCat retains anonymous subscription records per their data retention policy.
• Transient audio — not retained by Hey Trainer after Gemini returns a response.
• AI request logs (voice transcripts + responses) — kept in our service logs for up to 14 days, then deleted automatically.

6. Children's privacy

Hey Trainer is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted data through the app, contact us at support@heytrainer.ai and we will take appropriate action.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights including:

• Access — request a copy of data we hold about you.
• Deletion — request deletion of your data.
• Correction — request corrections to inaccurate data.
• Portability — receive your data in a portable format.
• Objection — object to certain processing.

Because most Hey Trainer data lives locally on your device, you can exercise many of these rights directly in the app (clear workout data, delete voice profile, uninstall the app). For anything involving third-party services (RevenueCat, Google), you would need to contact those services directly.

California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Hey Trainer does not sell personal information.

EU/UK residents (GDPR): Our legal basis for processing voice audio is the performance of the service you requested (logging your workout). You may withdraw consent at any time by disabling the microphone permission for Hey Trainer in your device settings.

8. Security

Workout data is stored in a local database on your device and is protected by your device's built-in security (encryption at rest on iOS and Android). If you use cloud backup, the synced copy is stored in Google Firestore, encrypted in transit and at rest. Audio sent to the Gemini API is transmitted over HTTPS.

9. Changes to this policy

We will post updates to this page when our practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
